
Douglas Green, while serving as an officer in the Royal Navy, was posted to France. Having a natural flair for wine tasting, he put his period of stay in Champagne, France to very good use. This posting helped him garner an eclectic experience of the entire process of wine making that he brought back to his native town. Today, 65 years later, Douglas Green is best known as the brand that introduced South Africa to the process of making wine by the sparkling fermentation method.
