Kanonkop

Named after the cannon found on a hill on this farm in South Africa, Kanonkop is a winemaker with a firm belief in coupling tradition with innovation. Ever since the first bottled wines were produced here in 1973, Kanonkop wines have been delighting South Africans with high quality products.

Red wines are the most popular Kanonkop products; no wonder then that Pinotage is the most widely cultivated variety. The farm is blessed by nature – no significant irrigation is required in this area except for a small part which has sandy soil. The fermenters used are of the traditional concrete type but with a twist – they are made broad and shallow instead of deep to allow better skin contact.

Innovation is the keyword even in the packaging of Kanonkop wines. The packaging used is made of natural eco-friendly materials that are user friendly – elastic cotton straps to hold the package and magnetic panels for automatically securing the package are examples.
