Klein Constantia
Ask anyone in Cape, South Africa, to name the most resilient vineyard of the region and you’re sure to hear the name Klein Constantia. This estate located on the peninsula, has been producing wine since 1689. During the 18th century, this farm produced the legendary ‘Constantia’ which was the privileged drink of the aristocrats.
The estate is ideally located – the combined influence of the Constantia mountain slopes and the southern part of the Atlantic Ocean is evident in the richness of the Klein Constantia wines. The farm is well known for not only its wines, but its picturesque beauty too. The newly constructed cellar is partly depressed below ground level to reduce its influence on the appearance of the estate.
In 1986, Klein Constantia revived the Constantia brand with minimal changes to the original formula. This, along with the Sauvignon Blanc, is the most recognized brand. The Sauvignon Blanc is well known for its crisp taste with the aroma of cut grass and a hint of gooseberry.
Being a family business, Klein Constantia constantly focuses on delivering quality products – a factor that has fetched it accolades from all corners of the world. An interesting nugget about this vineyard – the efforts of the estate designers have not gone in vain; Klein Constantia is the one and only winery in the whole of Cape to have won an award for its architecture.
