Meerlust

Henning Hüsing, the owner of a farm in Cape was so enthralled by the magic of the sea breezes from False Bay, that he called the place Meerlust. In 1756, the farm passed into the hands of the Myburgh family, but the name stuck.

One of South Africa’s 17th century monuments and one of the best wine estates, Meerlust is today run by Hannes Myburgh, an eighth generation descendant who zealously adheres to the time tested techniques of winemaking.

This heritage is reflected in the high quality and old world charm of the wines produced here, of which, the red wine Rubicon is the most popular. Other brands of Meerlust include the Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

Located about five kilometers away from False Bay to the south of the Stellenbosch area, Meerlust is situated in a location that is perfect for winemaking. The weather conditions here make for a slow ripening of the grapes, which allows a complete concentration of the flavors. Add to this the composition of the soil that resembles that of Bordeaux, and you have the secret behind the success of Meerlust.
