Terra del Capo

Terra del Capo is one of the cellars of the Anthonij Rupert Wines located on the L’Ormarins wine farm in Franschhoek. The Anthonij Rupert cellar is the home base – it produces the highest quality red wine. The Terra del Capo cellar, on the other hand, has the capacity to produce both red and white wines.

The specialty of this cellar is that it has been constructed on a slope – hence, gravity allows the flow of grapes into the fermenters where the further extraction process takes place. Everywhere in the Terra del Capo cellar you can see the harnessing of technology – the temperature control system, for example, is computer programmed. Even a half degree change from the preset temperature triggers off a message to the phone of the winemaker.

The Terra del Capo cellar is well equipped with the latest equipment – and no expense is deemed too great if it can ensure a high quality output. The French oak barrels used here are not used beyond three years – such is the passion for excellence.

Pinot Grigio is by far the most famous wine of the Terra del Capo cellar – it has a fresh and smooth, tropical feel and the acidity is balanced well. The success of this wine both in South Africa and internationally proves the rightness of the Anthonij Rupert philosophy that it is the land, climate and technology working in tandem that makes for a great wine.
