Beye rskloof wines have an extraordinary character that reflects the dedicated efforts of four wine enthusiasts of Johannesburg. Begun in 1988, this winery continues to charm one and all with the wonderful wines it makes. Named after the Beyers family, this winery is ably run by Beyers Truter and Simon Halliday of the British company Raisin Social.
The Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted in the traditional way in a north-south direction on a trellis system consisting of five wires. This allows exposure to the largest amount of sunshine which translates into greater sugar content. This is reflected in the fruity taste of the Beyerskloof wines. The ground water level is also crucial to the ripening of the fruit; when this is low, additional irrigation is provided to ensure fruits ripen to the maximum extent.
Beyerskloof wines have a timeless class that has international appeal. The vinery’s commitment to quality has rightly earned it the Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Trophy during the annual International Wine and Spirit Competition held at London; an award that is given to the Best Blended Red Wine in the entire world.
Beyerskloof recognizes its community responsibility and is contributing to social causes through FAITH – the Fetal Alcohol-Syndrome and Interrelated Treatment Help Fund that addresses one of winelands’ gravest issues.
